1923-S Standing Liberty Quarter Blem Free Brown-Gray G-VG Just Honest Wear (S03)
1923-S Standing Liberty Quarter Blemish Free Brown-Gray, Good-Very Good. The 1923-S Standing Liberty has a well deserved reputation as the third scarcest SLQ behind the 1916 and the 1918/7-S overdate. But less recognized is the reality that one still often gets only a (clear) single digit "3" coin up to and including coins graded by the major services as high as XF. So, if you're tempted to dismiss this coin for its having a one-digit date, remember that it has plenty of company with many 1923-S quarters graded VG-XF! Exactly what the appeal of SLQs is for me I've never fully figured out. But so are WL halves (which just don't hold my interest). Perhaps it's my appreciation of how short and manageable the series is -- just 15 years (and no coins in 1922). The total SLQ mintage of all. Dates-mints-varieties put together is about equal to the number of "D" mint Wisconsin state quarters. And WI state quarters haven't been melted. Periodically I go through my several sets of SLQ coins and sell off some things to free up a few dollars or to upgrade.
